I am often asked by clients as a New Jersey Divorce Lawyer, “Do I have to go to court and actually see the judge?” This is a fact-specific issue, meaning if the parties can come to an agreement and one party waives an appearance, you don’t necessarily have to go to court. In certain New Jersey counties, the divorce can be done without either party appearing.

I will tell my clients as a New Jersey Divorce Lawyer, If one party doesn’t answer the complaint that the other party has filed, you would need to appear in court. This would be a very brief appearance, just long enough to put the facts on the record and have the court enter the final judgment of divorce.
