New Jersey Family Law Attorney Discusses Calculating Child Support

New Jersey Family Law AttorneyAs an experienced New Jersey Family Law Attorney, I am often asked “how is child support calculated?”  In New Jersey, child support is calculated using what is called the child support guidelines. Many states have that, but each state’s guidelines are different. A guideline in New Jersey is different than what a guideline would be in New York, or in Connecticut, or Florida. When the parties exceed the amount on the child support guideline, which is the party’s gross income exceeding over $3500.00 a week. The child support will not be calculated pursuant to guidelines, although the guidelines can be used as a starting point for the determination of child support.
